Suffolk Water Authority To Hike Rate 4.8 Percent In June

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — Water service in Suffolk County is about to get a little more expensive. The Suffolk County Water Authority announced it is set to increase its quarterly service charge from $29.17 per quarter to $30.57 per quarter effective June 1 — a 4.8 percent increase. The water authority's board approved the increase at its March 31 meeting. Average residential customers are set to be charged an extra $1.73 per month, Newsday reported.The increases are higher than last year's 4 percent jump. The water authority said its standard water consumption rate has increased from $1.586 per centi-cubic-foot (CCF) to $1.661 per CCF. Its conservation water rate has increased from $2.289 per CCF to $2.398 per CCF. Only customers who use more than 120 CCF in a billing quarter will be charged the conservation water rate, and they will only be charged the conservation rate for usage above and beyond 120 CCF, according to the water authority.
