PORT WASHINGTON, NY — The Port Washington girls basketball team fell to Syosset on Wednesday evening. The Braves (19-0) entered the game as an unbeaten top seed and remained that way after defeating the Vikings (10-10) 73-28.
The game was played at Syosset High School.
The Vikings started the playoff game slow and couldn't dig themselves out of an early hole. The team was outscored 20-2 in the first quarter and were down 34-7 after the second quarter.
At the end of the game, Kate Shanahan led the Vikings with 13 points followed by Natalie DeMeo with seven.
On the other side, Caroline Ruggiero led the Braves with 23 points, including nine free throws. Charlotte Twohig and Kendall Halpern each added 15 points of their own. Twohig and Halpern combined to net four three-pointers.
Syosset moves on to the semi-finals, which will be held at 11 a.m. March 11 at Farmingdale State College. The Braves fell to Baldwin in the Nassau Class AA championship game last year.
