Description
Ran into a neighbor with whom I'd not had much regular contact since the start of the pandemic.
He looked at me all dumbstruck and exclaimed, "Look at you, Beautiful, with the short hair! I Love It! It's so curly!"
Pre quarantine, I wore my hair long and in its natural color. A little over a year in, my hair started going seriously gray, then falling out in patches.
Last Thanksgiving, I gave thanks to my bounty, then shaved my head.
Not gonna lie: It Looked Bad. As if gazing in the mirror at my new Blofeld/Dr. Evil self wasn't bad enough, I had men during my daily forced walks stopping me to tell me how ugly my head looked.
Half a year after that Bleak Winter Act, my hair is growing back fine. Hennaed it to normal, using the grays as a natural highlight. Am starting to feel semi happy with my looks again.
My neighbor's offhand compliment did So Much to Reinforce.
Folks: Take Good Care this Thursday evening. Be gentle on yourselves. Please don't cut other folks down if you are feeling bad.
If you have it in you, try to pay a compliment today, tomorrow, anon, to someone in your life.
Honestly: It Helps.
