MTA: LIRR Port Washington Branch Service Reduced This Weekend

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — The MTA plans to install a crossover switch over the weekend near the Great Neck train station and travelers on the Port Washington Branch should expect to take buses between Port Washington and Great Neck. The MTA wrote on its website that Port Washington Branch service will be reduced from half-hourly to hourly Saturday and Sunday. Instead of trains, bus service will take travelers from Port Washington to Great Neck, the transit authority said. Travelers should expect up to 25 minutes of additional travel time. The Long Island Rail Road plans to conduct switch installation work as part of the Great Neck Pocket Track Extension Project. Some service changes will continue overnight Monday and into the early-morning period, the MTA said. Morning peak service is not expected to be affected. Key changes: Eastbound Last train before service change begins: 11:21 p.m. train from Penn Station (Friday evening).First train after service change ends: 3:18 a.m. train from Penn Station (Monday morning).Please plan for up to 25 minutes of additional travel time while busing is in effect.Westbound Last train before service change begins: 12:44 a.m. train from Port Washington (Saturday overnight)First train after service change ends: 5:09 a.m. train from Port Washington (Monday morning).Buses will depart from Port Washington, Plandome and Manhasset up to 25 minutes earlier than normal train times.
