Description
NORTH HEMPSTEAD, NY – Port Rowing will kick off its fall season with its first ever Port Row-a-Thon: a 20,000 meter row to raise funds to help with equipment.
The Row-a-Thon will take place on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., rain or shine, at Port Rowing's Boathouse at North Hempstead Beach Park, 175 West Shore Road.
Rowers will launch their boats into Hempstead Harbor to row over 12 miles. Sponsors will encourage the rowers and support the squad's "fundraisOAR" goal of $20,000.
The event is open and free for the public and parents, with social distancing and masks required.
Port Rowing, one of the largest rowing teams in New York, is a nonprofit that does not receive school district funding. In order to keep dues affordable, Port Rowing relies on fundraising to cover expenses, repairs and purchases of equipment and upkeep.
