MOUNT SINAI, NY — Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai is closed to swimming after high levels of bacteria were found, the Suffolk County Commissioner's office announced Monday. It will stay closed until repeat testing shows acceptable levels of bacteria.
According to Suffolk County Commissioner of Health Dr. Gregson Pigott, "bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat."
Cedar Beach Town Nature Preserve is located at 244 Harbor Beach Road.

Venetian Shores Beach in Lindenhurst and Benjamin Beach in Bay Shore remain closed.
