Join us for a FREE community healing workshop dedicated to those who have lost loved ones as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Presented as part of Libation & Liberation, a large-scale community quilt set to debut on Juneteenth in New York City, this workshop invites participants to slow down together, mourn in community, and reaffirm our strength through a variety of healing modalities. The day will offer spirit-restoring practices such as artmaking, reiki, song, storytelling, and the pouring of libations. Anu Shipp in Detroit, Michigan, Ife Felix in Brooklyn, New York, and Diane Gordon in Toledo, Ohio will each share the rich history of African American quilting and lead participants in the creation of their own blocks.
For a full experience of the workshops, participants are encouraged to bring fabrics once worn by their loved ones, and record special messages, poems, or prayers in honor of their lives. These offerings will make up the Libation & Liberation community quilt, highlighting how deeply tied our liberation is to the contributions of our ancestors.
Libation & Liberation will be displayed on June 19th, 2022 in Prospect Park, Brooklyn on the occasion of [official name of client’s event.] The project is generously supported by [funders+partners], and the Brooklyn Quilters Guild.
