Parrot Rescue Fund-Raising Calendars Papayago Rescue House (PRH), located on Canton Road, is selling calendars with professional photos of their birds as a way to help raise money to take care of over 100 parrots at their rescue. To buy a calendar please click on the following link: https://papayagorescuehouse.org/store/prh-calendar/ The price is $25 and includes shipping. Makes a great Xmas gift! One can also make a donation on their website at: https://papayagorescuehouse.org/ Like other non-profits, COVID-19 has impacted their ability to bring in the donations needed to cover their basic costs. They have also seen an increase in the number of parrots being surrendered as a result of the pandemic. They do not receive any state or federal funding and none of their board members receive a salary. They are all volunteers. They are funded primarily by small, individual donors, and need to desperately increase their donor base to ensure that they can continue to have the funds necessary to house, feed, and vet their parrots. They are also looking for volunteers, fosters and adopters. Please see their website for more information. PRH is only one of two active parrot rescues in the state of Georgia. They are a nonprofit 501(c)(3), Georgia Department of Agriculture inspected rescue, supporting the well-being of parrots through rescue, rehabilitation, retraining, and rehoming. A majority of Americans own pets, primarily dogs and cats, but parrots make-up the third-largest pet community. There are over 20 million households with parrots. Yet, parrots have joined the ranks alongside the most discarded, homeless pets. A very sad fact is that 85% of parrots are resold, given away, or abandoned within 2 years of being purchased, and yet many parrots live 40 – 80 years. It is estimated that the majority of all captive parrots eventually end up in at least five homes before suffering and dying prematurely. There are thousands of dog and cat rescues in the U.S. but less than 100 Parrot Rescues, which are as vital as dog and cat rescues, but are often overlooked by charitable organizations. Thank you for your support!
