Description
26th Annual Juneteenth Festival in Donaldsonville, Louisiana The 26th Annual Dville Music Festival Celebrating Freedom is set for Saturday, June 11, 2022 from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. at Louisiana Square, 308 Railroad Ave, Donaldsonville, LA. We are also adding a Talent Show on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at the Leman Center. The line-up for the Music Festival includes a Gospel Music, a Children’s Tent, R&B, Soul and Funk. Every year we celebrate all that Louisiana has to offer including family, food, crafts and music. The Juneteenth National Holiday celebrations commemorate June 19, 1865, when Union General Gordon Granger announced in Galveston, Texas that all slaves had been freed by proclamation of President Abraham Lincoln. It came more than two-and-a-half years after the Emancipation Proclamation, signed on September 22, 1862. The City of Donaldsonville and the festival committee have carried on this tradition locally since its inception in 1996. Started by former Donaldsonville Mayor B.J. Francis Sr. and his late wife, Janet Ganes Francis, it was continued through the efforts of the River Road African American Museum and other volunteers in the community. From 2011 - 2021, Tamiko Francis Garrison, Allison Hudson, and the City of Donaldsonville served as the planning committee for the festival. The City of Donaldsonville is excited to announce that in 2022 the Millennials and Generation Z have assumed control. The committee members are Tamiko Stroud, Tre’ Sullivan, Tre‘ Skidmore, Paige Joseph and Skye Taylor. The family oriented festival is free and open to the public. There will be an entrance fee for the Talent Show. If you are interested in becoming a vendor please contact Tre Skidmore 225-717-6333 or Tamiko Stroud at 225-717-1019.
