Havird reviews American writer Harriet Doerrs’s debut novel, published when she was 73 years old. It follows a middle-aged Californian couple as they relocate to the Mexican village Ibarra, where they hope to reopen a copper mine operated in the 19th century by the husband’s grandfather. The couple are the village’s only foreigners and it is during their time in Ibarra they learn much about life and the tide of fate.
