AMITYVILLE VILLAGE, NY — Amityville Village residents will have the opportunity to be environmentally friendly while enjoy the warm weather. Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, in partnership with Bethpage Federal Credit Union, announced on Monday that regional bike share program Bethpage Ride, has returned this season with a new mobile app and new locations in Amityville Village. Users can download the app on their smartphone and can pay per ride or buy a membership. Riders can pay $4 per hour, but can also opt for a daily rate of $35 or a yearly plan for $59. This yearly plan allows for unlimited trips of up to one hour. In order to participate in Bethpage Ride, users must be 18 years older. "On behalf of the Village of Amityville, I am so happy to welcome Suffolk's regional bike share program to our community," said Amityville Mayor Dennis Siry. "This environmentally-friendly initiative will add to the exciting revitalization happening in our downtown." The program uses a rear App-Based Bluetooth locking mechanism, which locks the back wheel of the bike while it's not rented. Bikes must be returned to a PedalShare station to complete a rental.
