Multi-Alarm Apartment Fire Sunday In Port Chester

PORT CHESTER, NY — Fire personnel from around the area worked to battle a blaze Sunday at a Port Chester apartment building. According to a Facebook by the Port Chester Fire Department, the multi-alarm fire began around 12:30 p.m. on North Main Street. Fire officials said there was heavy fire on a three floors of the building, which was well advanced prior to firefighters arriving. There were no people trapped in the structure, as had been originally thought. The blaze grew to a fifth alarm, and mutual aid was brought in from around the county and from Greenwich, Connecticut. Authorities said the fire spread to two adjoining buildings. Two firefighters had to be taken to area hospitals for injuries that were considered not life-threatening. Fire personnel were still on site after midnight Monday, because the structure would have to be torn down due to the extensive damage. Officials said firefighters will be present while the structure is demolished. Happening Now!
