SUMMIT, NJ — Summit Public Schools announced Tuesday that a new principal of Franklin Elementary School has been selected, pending approval by the Summit Board of Education. Administrators selected Esther Loor, a former Assistant Elementary Principal for Westwood Regional Schools, as the new principal. Administrators believe Loor will be "an excellent match" for Franklin Elementary School. The current principal, Janice Tierny, announced at a Board of Education meeting in March that she would be retiring effective Aug. 1. The Interview Committee in charge of hiring Loor consists of district administrators, elementary principals, Franklin teachers, the Franklin main office secretary and a Franklin parent. As an assistant principal, Loor assisted the four elementary schools in Westwood in building principles in the coordination and oversight of instruction, supervision, evaluation and the overall administration of the schools. In addition, she implemented the return of a summer enrichment program to support STEM and visual performing arts courses, as well as necessary curriculum writing. Loor also developed and ran the summer acceleration program to address potential learning gaps from the 2020-2021 school year. Prior to Westwood, Loor was a lead teacher in Tenafly Public Schools where she "oversaw the development and implementation of new curriculum and acted as an instructionalcoach to support the delivery of best pedagogical practices in the classroom." "I am honored to have been selected as the next principal of Franklin Elementary School," Loor said in a statement. "It will be a privilege to lead the staff, students and families in their continued excellence. I am looking forward to forging long-lasting partnerships within the Summit community." If approved by the Board of Education at the May 12 meeting, Loor will begin her role on Aug. 1, according to the district. Have a news tip? Email [email protected].
