ORANGE, CT —Amity Regional High School student Liliana Restrepo from Orange was awarded a $2,500 scholarship from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Restrepo plans to study environmental policy in college. The winners were chosen from a pool of more than 15,000 finalists. The scholars were selected by a committee of college admission officers and high school counselors. Academic records, preliminary SAT/SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test scores and leadership in school and community activities were taken into account. Most of the $2,500 scholarship awards are financed by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Some also come from company foundations that sponsor awards.
