Description
Press release from Prince William County Government: Tuesday, 10 May 2022 Police officers are the most visible front-line representatives of the criminal justice system. As such law enforcement officers bear the tremendous responsibility of making often instantaneous and irrevocable decisions affecting human life and safety, property rights and personal liberty. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy designated May 15, 1962, as National Peace Officers Memorial Day, and the week of May 15 as National Police Week. The Prince William Board of County Supervisors recently upheld the custom and proclaimed May 15, 2022, as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week of May 11 through 17, 2022, as National Police Week. Administering criminal justice is a major concern to the everyday lives of Prince William County residents, and Prince William County is fortunate to have highly qualified, professional men and women, who, by temperament and training, are fully prepared to meet the challenges of changing social conditions. National Police Officers Memorial Day and Week are set aside to recognize and remember those who gave their lives in the line of duty from Prince William County, the commonwealth of Virginia, and our nation as well as those who continue to maintain a delicate balance courageously and conscientiously between the liberty of the individual and social protection. In its proclamation, the Prince William Board of County Supervisors also encouraged county residents to thank those who protect the public, night and day, and make the county a safe place to live, work and play.
