MANCHESTER, CT — The Manchester Sculpture Project is offering a fun way for the community to raise money for a life-size bronze statue of Elisabeth M. Bennet that will be installed on the lawn of Bennet Academy in June of 2023. The project is scheduled to host a mini-golf tournament on June 11 at 10 a.m. at Mar- Lea Miniature Golf, 244 Boston Turnpike, Bolton, It will be a shotgun start at 10 a.m. with check-in beginning at 9 a.m. The ticket price includes: Use of ball and putterA trophy for low scores in junior and senior divisions, including a coveted green jacket for the winner in each divisionAn opportunity to compete for the title of "Manchester's Best Putter" and Hole in One prize After play is over all ticket holders will receive a complimentary lunch at Bobby T's Hot Dog Cart, located on the Mar-Lea grounds. The cost is $25 for children 14 and older and adults. Children 13 and under are $10 and must be accompanied on the course by an adult. Bennet, educator, innovator and visionary, is the second in the series of three life-size bronze sculptures undertaken by The Sculpture Project with a goal of creating a legacy project that honors Manchester citizens who made extraordinary contributions in their fields and to the community. The first of the statues was that of Olympic medalist and Manchester Road Race icon, Joe McCluskey. $86,849 was raised over three years and the statue was installed along the East Coast Greenway in November 2019. It will be located on the grounds of the Mary Cheney Library. Michael Keropian, an artist with roots in Manchester, was chosen as the sculptor.
