MORRISTOWN, NJ — The Morris Choral Society will conclude its season with a grand finale concert titled "Americana" on Sunday, May 15. The concert will begin at 3 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 131 Mountain Way, and will feature important works by two major American composers: Randall Thompson and Aaron Copeland. "Come and enjoy a wonderful afternoon of great music from America's past," the Morris Choral Society said. The program kicks off with Thompson's "Frostiana: Seven Country Songs," based on Robert Frost's poetry. The work, commissioned by the town of Amherst, Massachusetts, is rich in New England imagery and includes some of Frost's most beloved poems, including "The Road Not Taken" and "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening." Jonathan Green, an American Verdi baritone who graduated from Oberlin Conservatory of Music and has performed as a soloist with New York's National Choral, will be the guest soloist. His operatic credits include "Rigoletto," "Falstaff," "Figaro," and "Crown" in Porgy and Bess, among others. The concert will also include a tribute to Ukraine's brave people with the singing of the "Ukrainian National Anthem," and will conclude with Randall Thompson's popular work "The Testament of Freedom." The four-movement piece, written in 1943 to commemorate the bicentennial of Thomas Jefferson's birth, has become well known due to its uplifting message. Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and $15 for children. All tickets must be purchased online at www.morrischoralsociety.org or by calling 973-723-6424. Thank you for reading!
