Stay up to date on Louisville Metro's COVID-19 testing, vaccines and more
COVID-19 infections are increasing in Jefferson County with 1,771 new cases reported last week. The latest data has landed Louisville back in the "medium" or "yellow" COVID-19 community level category.
"With cases increasing, if you are eligible, now is the time to get that second booster dose," said Dr. Sarah Moyer, director of Louisville Metro Department of Public Health & Wellness (LMPHW. "Getting boosted provides an extra layer of protection in this current wave of COVID-19 and prevents people from becoming severely infected and hospitalized."
The CDC recommends counties in the "medium" risk category to do the following:
The CDC is also recommending that travelers wear a well-fitting mask in public transportation areas.
"As we resume our summer and social activities, it is important to remember that the virus is, unfortunately, still among us," Dr. Moyer said. "We recommend that you speak to your physician about prevention and treatment options, especially if you are older or immunocompromised."
While cases have been increasing over the past several weeks, hospitalizations have remained low.
Wastewater data shows that the omicron BA.2 variant is the most dominant strain in Jefferson County.
