NEW JERSEY - A New Jersey man was sentenced to 71 years in state prison on Tuesday in connection with the 2019 mass shooting in North Bergen that killed one individual and injured three others. Jonathan Haughey-Morales, 30, of West New York, was sentenced to 50 years in state prison for murder and three consecutive seven year sentences for aggravated assault, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office. Another five year sentence will run concurrent for an unlawful possession of a weapon charge. Haughey-Morales was previously convicted on all charges by a jury in March. On Sunday, May 5, 2019, at around 3:30 a.m., four individuals were found shot in a home on 46th Street in North Bergen. Carlos Garcia, 40, two other males and one female were all transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center. Garcia was pronounced dead around 4:25 a.m. Haughey-Morales was identified as a suspect in the shooting and located by police in South Whitehall Township, Pa., the following day.
