MILTON, NH — A man from Newmarket died after drowning in Milton Three Pond on Tuesday.
Around 9:15 a.m., witnesses reported a man in the water who was holding onto a canoe. The man, identified as Sonethanong Khongsouvankham, 44, of Newmarket, attempted to swim to shore, Amber Lagace, a spokesperson for the New Hampshire State Police-Marine Patrol, said.
"Witnesses state he swam approximately 8 feet and then went underwater and never resurfaced again," she said. "An onlooker immediately swam out to the location where the victim disappeared in an attempt to locate him but was unsuccessful."
Around 1 p.m., Marine Patrol found him. Lagace said Milton police, firefighters, and New Hampshire Fish & Game Department assisted with the case.
