Press release from Inver Grove Heights Public Schools: May 11, 2022 The second Wednesday in May is School Nurse Day each year. This year, Dakota County superintendents nominated the school nurses within the county for a 2022 Public Health Achievement Award. On May 10, Dakota County announced that county school nurses were selected to receive an honorable mention in the award's community group category! ISD 199 Superintendent Dave Bernhardson wrote the nomination letter on behalf of all Dakota County superintendents. In it, he highlighted that school nurses are flexible and responsive to the needs of everyone who shows up at their doors during typical times, but that they have gone above and beyond during the pandemic. "During the past two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, school nurses have been unwavering in their support of students, staff, and families," Superintendent Bernhardson wrote. "They have played a critical role in the school district's ability to have students learn safely within school buildings." Dakota County Public Health Director Gina Adasiewicz wrote in her award announcement that "The efforts of Dakota County school nurses during the pandemic is a great example of what can be accomplished when a group comes together with a specific purpose and a true sense of mission to help a community stay healthy" and congratulated school nurses on their leadership in making Dakota County a better place to work and live. Thank you for all you do, school nurses, and congratulations on your recognition! This press release was produced by Inver Grove Heights Public Schools.
