CARTERSVILLE, GA — A massive amount of real estate in Northwest Georgia that could draw even more industrial employers to Bartow County has just hit the market.
The Aubrey Corp. in White, Georgia, is selling 19,500 acres of prime agricultural and horticultural land in Bartow and Cherokee counties, most of it around the burgeoning industrial corridor along Interstate 75. The planned sale was first reported Tuesday by Atlanta Business Chronicle.
That land could be worth more than $1 billion, according to Jim Ramseur of Lee & Associates in Atlanta, which is representing the seller.
"This area is now in the economic boom of industrial development," Ramseur told the Chronicle. "All of that industrial corridor going up I-75 is smack-dab on top of this property."
According to the Chronicle, Bartow County already hosts more than 20 million square feet of industrial space. Area employers include Anheuser Busch, Shaw Industries and Toyo Tires, with Amazon soon to join them when it opens a new sorting facility in Emerson.
All of this development up I-75 has been spurred by the increasing scarcity of land closer to Atlanta. That made the time right for Aubrey to sell.
"The continued expansion north of Atlanta and the growth that the area has experienced over the past five years made it a logical decision to exit monolithically," said Robert Neel, manager member of The Aubrey Corp., as reported by The Rome News-Tribune.
