Description
PLAINVIEW, NY — A forklift struck a gas line at warehouse in Plainview and firefighters evacuated the building.
The Plainview Fire Department was called to the warehouse on Newtown Road around 1:30 p.m. Friday along with an engine from the Syosset Volunteer Fire Department for a report of an interior gas leak. Units learned a forklift hit a gas line for a heating unit, sending gas fumes throughout the building, officials told Patch.
Crews evacuated the building and shut down the gas to the heating unit. Utility workers then shut down the gas to the building as fumes were ventilated from the building.
In an unrelated incident, a person collapsed at the scene and emergency medical workers who were already at the warehouse stepped in to aid the person, who was taken to a hospital.
