WOODBURY, NY — A man was hit by a car and killed Wednesday on the Long Island Expressway as he was outside a parked work truck to help bridge maintenance crews, police said.
A 27-year-old man was outside a work truck in Woodbury when he was hit by a Mitsubishi sedan that was traveling west in the right lane near state Route 135 and Exit 44.
The man suffered multiple trauma injuries and died on the expressway around 12:30 pm., police said.
The 29-year-old Mitsubishi driver was not hurt and the sedan was impounded for a brake and safety check.
The westbound lanes of the expressway and the northbound exit of the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway to the interstate both reopened about six hours after closing.
