PLAINVIEW, NY — Two Plainview men have been arrested after police said they attacked a third man after he refused to drive them home, and continued attacking him even as he drove to a police station in Williston Park. Around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Alexis Martinez-Benitez, 20, and Christian Schiavone, 19, asked a 24-year-old man to drive them home in the man's vehicle, police said. The three men were at a parking lot on Washington Avenue in Plainview. Martinez-Benitez lives on Universal Boulevard and Schiavone lives on Cherry Drive. When the man refused, Martinez-Benitez and Schiavone attacked, police said, punching him as he tried to get into his vehicle and drive away. Martinez-Benitez and Schiavone got in the car with him and continued attacking the man as he was driving. At one point, Schiavone forcibly ripped off the driver's necklace from around his neck. The man drove to a Nassau County police precinct building on Hillside Avenue in Williston Park and ran inside to tell officers what had happened. Police officers went out to the vehicle and arrested Martinez-Benitez and Schiavone without further incident. The man was taken to a hospital for treatment of substantial bruising and cuts and was in stable condition. Martinez-Benitez faces charges of 3rd-degree assault, 2nd-degree robbery, 4th-degree criminal mischief, 4th-degree grand larceny, 3rd degree unauthorized use of a vehicle and 7th-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Schiavone faces charges of 3rd-degree assault, 2nd-degree robbery, 4th-degree criminal mischief, 4th-degree grand larceny and 3rd-degree unauthorized use of a vehicle. Both were scheduled to appear in Mineola court Monday.
