PLAINVIEW, NY — Firefighters were called to an Italian restaurant in Plainview this week after food left in the oven caused the building to fill with smoke, officials said. Around 10:40 p.m. Monday, the Syosset Volunteer Fire Department rushed to La Piazzetta Cafe on Woodbury Road after an automatic fire alarm triggered at a nearby deli. Both restaurants are part of the same strip mall. Firefighters checked out the row of stores and found smoke inside La Piazzetta Cafe. Crews stretched a precautionary hose line to the front door and entered the eatery. They found burnt food in the oven caused the smoke, officials said. There were no flames. Firefighters removed the burnt trays and used fans to ventilate the café. The scene was turned over to Nassau County police. Below are photos of the response.
