FLORIDA — After being singled out by the White House Coronavirus Task Force for having counties in the coronavirus "red zone," Florida counties are doubling down on efforts to enforce coronavirus mandates.
Although the White House hasn't officially released the task force report to the public, a copy was posted on The Center for Public Integrity website over the weekend.
The report indicated that 12 Florida counties are in the red zone, meaning they have more than 101 or more new cases per 100,000 residents and a positivity rate above 10 percent.
Counties listed in the red zone are Miami-Dade, Okaloosa, Bay, Citrus, Hernando, Walton, Highlands, Monroe, DeSoto, Okeechobee, Gilchrist and Union.
On Monday, the Florida Department of Health reported 7,711 new positive cases of coronavirus, bringing the total number of cases since the pandemic began to 1,048,265.
A total of 19,529 people have died from the coronavirus in Florida including 1,300 deaths in the past month (Nov. 7 to Dec. 7).
While the number of Floridians being tested has increased over the past month, the percentage of those testing positive has remained steady with a current positivity rate of 7.62 percent in Florida.
Of 99,363 statewide test results reported to the FDOH Sunday, 91,788 were negative and 7,575 were positive.
