Knowing what to do in an emergency can help save a life!!! Knowing what to do in an emergency can help save a life. How many times have individuals in our communities found themselves in a situation with a gunshot victim and didn’t know what to do? After thinking about that question, ask yourself how many lives could’ve possibly been saved had someone on the scene knew how to respond. In 2021, Indianapolis experienced a record-breaking year for violence with 271 criminal homicides. Up until here recently, Indianapolis was on pace to seeing a reduction in overall homicides for the entire year. With the recent trends, it is hard to sit back and not do anything to contribute to change. Of course there isn’t one resolution to reducing violence in our communities but as a community we have to come together and do what we can to help. Unity Indy City is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to engage in efforts to address the social determinants of health such as crime and violence, access to nutritious food, quality housing, environmental conditions, and civic participation. Leading up to the Indianapolis Ceasefire Weekend during Memorial Day Weekend, we have partnered with Eskenazi Health’s Trauma Unit and Project Free University to provide FREE “Stop the Bleed” classes to our communities on May 25, 2022. There will be three 1-hour sessions on that day and seating is limited. Register today!!!
