PEARL RIVER, NY — It's been a tough year for Hudson Valley businesses. The coronavirus pandemic presented enormous challenges for most, from the stay-home orders in the spring to restrictions and other hurdles from fall into winter.
To recognize all their efforts, Patch asked readers to nominate Local Businesses of the Year, whether it was the restaurant that made special accommodations for takeout, the shop that opened early, the pizzeria that went out of its way to deliver, the hardware store owner that offered invaluable advice or something else.
We received many responses. Here are the nominations Patch has received in Pearl River:
Beauty Connection, Pearl River. "They always go above and beyond," said Pat Johnson.
Luigi O'Grady, Pearl River. "They really stepped up during this pandemic in not only showing up every day but also providing obscene amounts of food to the first responders, nurses, and doctors," said Michele Malerba. "Also Michele, the owner, is very generous to the community and organizations in the community," added Martin Davin.
Joe & Joe's, Pearl River. "During this pandemic, Joe (owner) and staff (Mike, Sean, Jacqueline, Brianne) made my experience as stress free as possible during these times. Trying to minimize all the new restrictions enforced for COVID. The fact that they show up every day is an example of their dedication to Joe and the community," said customer Mike Sheehan.
Even the Shoprite in Pearl River got a shout-out for a feat that's important in a pandemic. "Do a phenomenal job keeping their lines moving," said Bill McGovern.
You can nominate any local business you feel should be recognized.
