Description
PEARL RIVER, NY — A man fell into an old, dry well on West Washington Avenue Thursday and was trapped there for hours as the sun set and the cold deepened. He was rescued after a passer-by heard his cries for help.
Orangetown police said the man worked for a company that had sent him to inspect the driveway.
Police were called at 6:23 p.m. Excelsior Fire Company, Hook and Ladder Company, Pearl River Ambulance Corps, Medic 21, the Orangetown Building Inspector and the Rockland County Technical Rescue Team responded as well.
The 20-year-old was extricated and received medical attention at the scene, before being taken to the Westchester Medical Center, which is the Level 1 trauma center in the lower Hudson Valley, for further evaluation and care.
