NEW CITY, NY — Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh, II announced Friday that Alias Stone has been sentenced for killing a fellow patient at the Rockland Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg. Stone attacked Ronald Randolph on July 31, 2017. He punched and stomped on the victim's head as he lay unconscious and defenseless. Stone was eventually restrained by Psychiatric Center employees but broke free and attacked Randolph again before he was removed from the room. Randolph died from his injuries on Aug. 14, 2017. Stone, aka "Billy Pugh," was convicted Feb. 11 2019, after a jury trial, of one count of Manslaughter in the First Degree, a class "B"Felony. "The defendant unleashed a rage-filled assault on a fellow patient, aggressively kicking and punching him, long after he fell incapacitated," Acting Rockland County District Attorney Kevin Gilleece said after the conviction. At Stone's sentencing on Jan.3, 2020, Judge Schwartz adjudicated the 56-year-old a violentpredicate felon and sentenced the him to 22 years in state prison. The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Michael Dugandzic. The Rockland Psychiatric Center on Old Orangeburg Road provides treatment, rehabilitation, and support to adults 18 and older with serious mental illness.
