NEW YORK CITY — A man suspected of killing an NYPD worker during a domestic violence incident in Queens remains on the loose, police said.
NYPD officials named Pedro Cintron, 55, as the man they believe shot Migdalia Ortega, 51, within a Fresh Pond apartment on Monday.
But Cintron hasn't yet been found as of Tuesday morning, despite a public call for help tracking him down, an NYPD spokesperson told Patch.
Police seek help tracking down Pedro Cintron, 55, the man they believe shot an NYPD worker in a Fresh Pond apartment Monday. (NYPD) The grisly and chaotic shooting unfolded Monday about 8:15 a.m. amid a domestic violence incident against Ortega — a civilian NYPD worker for the past 11 years, said Julie Morrill, the commanding officer of Queens North detectives.
A man shot Ortega in the head and chased a neighbor — a 48-year-old woman — who had walked up to check in on what was happening, Morrill said. The man shot the neighbor twice as she ran away from him down a hallway and stairwell, authorities said.
Ortega later died in a local hospital and her neighbor was listed in critical, but stable condition, police said.
People with information helping track down Cintron are asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or, for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the CrimeStoppers website at https://crimestoppers.nypdonline.org/ or on Twitter @NYPDTips.
