NEW YORK CITY — A massive fire ripped through a Bronx building building, leaving one person dead just a block from the site of a devastating January blaze, according to FDNY officials and reports.
The four-alarm blaze at 2194 Valentine Ave. near East 182nd Street is under control as of roughly 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, the FDNY tweeted.
The fire ignited within sight of 333 E. 181 St., where another blaze broke out in January and claimed the lives of 17 people.
Details about the Fordham Heights blaze are still scant, but it appears one person died and eight others — including two firefighters — suffered injuries, CBS New York reported.
The fire began about 9 a.m. and quickly grew to a two-alarm blaze, according to the FDNY.
In roughly an hour's time, FDNY classified it as a four-alarm blaze that spread throughout the building, alerts show.
