ROOSEVELT, NY — Three men were arrested on Monday night after a traffic stop in Roosevelt led to the finding of a weapon.
After a 2021 Jeep Wrangler failed to obey a stop sign, officers stopped the vehicle at the corner of Park Avenue and East Clinton Avenue, Nassau police said.
The three men appeared to react nervously at the police commands, detectives said.
When asked to exit the vehicle, one man attempted to flee but was stopped by officers. During the investigation, it was determined that he was in possession of a loaded .45 caliber handgun and three pills, believed to be oxycodone and amphetamine, were found in the car, detectives said.
Jihad Prunty, 20, of East Meadow, was arrested on charges that include criminal possession of a firearm and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday, according to police.
Guillermo Ospina, 21, of East Meadow and Tyriq Lobban, 18, of Roosevelt, are each charged with one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance and were issued a desk appearance ticket for a May 30 court date.
