FARMINGDALE, NY — Farmingdale residents are set to head to the polls on Tuesday, May 17. The vote is scheduled at Weldon E. Howitt Middle School from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Farmingdale School District's proposed spending plan for the 2022-23 school year is $182,892,350. That's a 4.56 percent increase from the current budget. The tax levy is $133,739,443, or a 1.59 percent increase from last year's. The budget was designed around the shifting needs of Farmingdale students and mitigating inflation, according to Michael Motisi, assistant to the superintendent for business, in an email sent to Superintendent Paul Defendini. The school district budgeted for additional support in special education, English language learners, social-emotional services, guidance, social work and psychology. "Major medical costs increased in excess of 10% for the first time in many years," Motisi wrote."Additionally, supplies and materials, equipment and energy costs continue to climb along with inflation. This budget has been designed to meet these needs without sacrificing our strong financial position."
