POINT PLEASANT, NJ — Last summer, residents of Front Street started raising concerns with Point Pleasant officials about the number of vehicles being parked along their residential street. The situation was creating a hazard, narrowing the space for drivers and creating safety issues. They asked borough officials to designate a no-parking zone. On Monday, their request was granted. The Borough Council voted to approve a 230-foot no-parking zone from the corner of Front Street at Arnold Avenue along the south side of the street. Before the vote, residents urged the council to approve the ordinance, noting their request had received support from the Point Pleasant Borough Police Department, which had reviewed the traffic issues. "This is an undersized street," resident Chris Finley said. With vehicles parking on both sides of the street, it made it too narrow for emergency vehicles to get down the street. That wasn't his only concern, however. "It's multiple issues and multiple factors," Finley said. Jessica Bennette, who lives on the corner of Front Street and Arnold Avenue, echoed Finley's remarks, saying the parking created particular issues for her, because of the location of her home. Officials said there were issues with people parking along the street who should be parking at nearby commercial properties. Mayor Robert Sabosik said the ordinance will take effect after it is published, and the no parking signs will go up as soon as possible. Get local news updates delivered to your inbox.
