ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington County Police are investigating one bank robbery and one attempted bank robbery that occurred Monday afternoon in Ballston. The two incidents came a week after another bank was robbed in Ballston. In that case, police released images of the suspect, asking for the public's help in identifying the man. At about 2:10 p.m. on Monday, police were dispatched to a bank in the 4000 block of Wilson Boulevard in response to an attempted bank robbery. The suspect demanded money from a teller. When the teller was unable to open her cash drawer, the suspect went behind the counter and tried to open the drawer. The suspect then fled on foot when he also could not open the cash drawer. A few minutes later, shortly after 2:20 p.m., police were dispatched to another bank in Ballston, in the 900 block of N. Stuart Street, for a report of a bank robbery. The suspect approached a teller, implied he had a weapon and demanded money. The suspect then fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash. No weapon was seen or displayed and no injuries were reported, police said. The attempted bank robbery occurred at the Citizens Bank in the 4000 block of Wilson Boulevard, while the bank robbery occurred at a Bank of America in front of the Ballston Metro station, ARLnow reported. The same man is wanted in both the attempted robbery and the robbery, according to ARLnow. The suspect is described as a Black man in his 40s or 50s, wearing a gray suit jacket, white button-down shirt, dark dress plants, a gray baseball hat and a black face mask, police said. In the May 2 incident, a man described as a Black male, about 6-feet, 2-inches tall with a heavy build, robbed the Truist bank at 920 N. Taylor Street, a block from the Ballston Metro station. The suspect entered the bank and passed a note to the teller demanding money and implying he had a weapon, police said. He then fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. Anyone with information about the bank robberies is asked to contact the Arlington County Police Department's Homicide/Robbery Unit at 703-228-4180 or [email protected].
