PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A driver police believe was behind the wheel while impaired crashed into a Maryland State Police patrol car shortly after 2 a.m. Monday and his car then caught fire. The patrol car then hit a trooper who was investigating a crash in Beltsville, throwing him into the air 10 to 15 feet from the crash, according to the Maryland State Police. Another trooper was getting out of his vehicle at the time the crash happened. Both vehicles were parked in the road with their emergency lights on.
Troopers already on the scene for the first accident ran to the burning vehicle and pulled the driver, Francis Ndoh, 29, of Laurel, out of the car. Ndoh has been charged with driving under the influence, according to the Maryland State Police. He was the only one in the Ford Fusion he was driving at the time of the incident and was taken to the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center. The trooper was taken to Suburban Hospital and later released.
