NEW LONDON, CT — A New London man accused in the brutal assault that killed a Chaplin man earlier this month has been extradited to Connecticut, according to The Norwich Bulletin. Matthew Candler, 55, was scheduled to be arraigned in Danielson Superior Court on Tuesday on a first-degree assault charge. The charge is connected to the death of Jeffrey Rawson, 51, who was found dead in a 214 Miller Road home May 1. Prosecutors told The Norwich Bulletin that they are awaiting a medical examiner's report on the death before deciding whether to file additional charges. He was held on a $500,000 bond. Connecticut state police had issued a public advisory Sunday afternoon to be on the lookout for Candler in an older model blue Ford pickup with Minnesota license plates. The truck was found Monday in Salisbury, MA, according to The Chronicle. Candler was then found in Seabrook, NH the next day and was taken into custody.
