Description
Press release from the Boulder Valley School District: May 9, 2022 After the consistent decline of COVID-19 in Boulder and Broomfield counties since the Omicron variant surge in January and February, we are again experiencing a rise in cases. Parents and staff may be sensing an increase in cases in their schools and community; this is occurring throughout much of Colorado. The health precautions we have in place in BVSD are the same recommendations that the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and our local public health agencies continue to stress: stay home when sick, test for COVID if symptomatic, vaccinate and isolate if you've tested positive. Mitigation Layered prevention strategies including vaccination, increased ventilation, handwashing, testing and masking can reduce the spread of COVID. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) provides recommendations for individuals and households based on their COVID Community Level. As of May 6, Boulder and Broomfield counties remain in the Low community level category. Depending on families' individual situations, they may wish to take additional precautions. All BVSD schools have masks available and all are welcome to wear a mask according to preference. As a reminder, persons who develop symptoms of COVID-19 should get tested (PCR or Antigen are appropriate) and persons who test positive should stay home in isolation for five (5) days from symptom onset or test date and then wear a mask when in public for another five (5) days. Vaccination Vaccination remains vital to COVID-19 pandemic control. The COVID-19 vaccines approved or authorized in the United States are highly effective at preventing severe disease and death and are available for everyone ages 5 and older. Vaccine booster doses are available as needed, contact your local health care provider with questions.
