YORKVILLE, IL — A Yorkville man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to the murder of 39-year-old Elizabeth Link in 2019, officials said Tuesday.
On May 14, 2019, 46-year-old Robert Turk stabbed Link to death after spending the night at her home in Verona, a village in Grundy County. Before leaving that night, he set the house and body on fire, according to the Illinois Attorney General's Office.
Firefighters discovered Link's body after extinguishing the fire. During an investigation into the death, cell phone data that showed Turk's presence at the house during the murder led law enforcement officers to the man, officials said.
"While today's sentencing will not make up for the loss of Elizabeth Link, it is my hope it can lead to healing for her family and friends," Attorney General Kwame Raoul said in a statement.
Raoul continued to thank law enforcement officers for their efforts in the investigation.
"I would like to thank the Grundy County State's Attorney's office and local law enforcement community for their dedication and commitment in seeking justice in this case," he said.
