Description
PHILADELPHIA — The Wawa Welcome America festival is back again and will feature Jason Derulo and Ava Max as headliners for the 2022 concert.
From Sunday, June 19 — Juneteenth — through Monday, July 4 — Independence Day — the festival will feature free concerts, fireworks, free museum access, community events, and more.
The July 4 concert and fireworks are once again back on the Ben Franklin Parkway.
Derulo headlined the virtual 2021 concert and in a video said he was excited to come back to the city for an in-person performance.
Thirty museums — including the African American Museum and the National Constitution Center —are on board to provide free access, and more are planned to join the festival.
This year will feature a new Latin and Hispanic cultural celebration that will highlight art, food, music, dancing, and dance lessons at the Esperanza Art Center.
Other festival events include the grand opening of the renovated Fishtown Recreation Center signaling the 2022 pool season's start, a Juneteenth block party, mental health training through Independence Blue Cross, Wawa Hoagie Day, and more.
The coronavirus pandemic made the 2020 festival shift to all virtual events, but 2021 brought back in-person activities, albeit in a much more limited capacity.
Events for this year will be aired on live television and online, as well as streamed online via NBC10 streaming partners Roku, Apple, and Peacock.
