Laguna Beach City Considers Expanded City Parking On 3rd Street

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — The Laguna Beach City Council will consider entering into a fifty year agreement with Laguna Presbyterian Church for the use of a parking structure on Third Street at its Tuesday's meeting. Depending on the outcome of the discussion, the proposal could set a course for the city to use properties at 355, 395, 361 and 363 3rd Street for expanded public parking. While the agreement will not serve as a formal contract, it would initiate a plan to add 90 parking spaces within the parking structure for public use, the city said in a staff report. As it stands, the parking structure hosts roughly 35 spaces, Laguna Beach Mayor Pro Tem Bob Whalen told the Laguna Beach Indy. If the city council opts to move forward with this agreement, the structure (along with the expansion of parking spaces) would cost the city around $10 million. According to the city staff report, Laguna Presbyterian would be paid roughly 2 percent of the annual gross revenue for the first two years, around ten percent for the next twenty years and twenty percent for the remaining 50-year agreement. The Laguna Beach City Council meets 5 p.m. Tuesday at council chambers, 505 Forest Avenue.
