ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving suspected dogfighting, a stolen purse, a cryptocurrency scam, drug possession, a disturbance, harassment and trespassing. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports: Suspected dogfighting A suspect brought in an injured pit bull about 3 p.m. Saturday to Elmhurst Animal Care, 850 S. Riverside Drive. The suspect said the dog had gotten out of the house and was attacked by two or three dogs. The veterinarian, though, said the injuries were consistent with illegal dogfighting. The case was forwarded to Cook County Animal Control because the incident occurred in Broadview. Stolen purse A woman told police that her Coach purse with a matching wallet was stolen between 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Friday in the emergency room at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road. Her driver's license and phone were in the purse. An investigation is pending. Cryptocurrency scam A resident in the 700 block of Stuart Court became the victim of a cryptocurrency scam by paying a stranger. The stranger instructed the resident to provide his personal and banking information. The resident did not send either. The incident was reported Thursday. Fraud A resident in the 700 block of South Chatham told police Thursday that someone filed an unemployment claim in the resident's name. Helping citizen A person was dropped off at the police station about 5:30 p.m. Thursday. The person did not want any help, other than a ride to Yorktown Mall in Lombard. The person was given a ride. Disturbance An officer on patrol was flagged down about 11 p.m. Thursday by a woman who said she needed help getting to her home in Downers Grove. She said she got into a fight with a man, who broke her phone. An officer tried to contact the suspect, but was unsuccessful. An investigation is pending. Trespassing Police were called about 7 a.m. Friday about a person in the building at 188 W. Industrial Drive. The person had been a problem in the building. The person was given a no-trespass notice. A person was being loud and belligerent toward employees and customers about 12:30 p.m. Friday at Mariano's grocery store, 678 N. York St. Police served the person with a no-trespass notice. Pole knocked down The light pole at Park and Poplar was found knocked down about 9:30 a.m. April 28. It was reported Saturday. House damage Upon returning home, a resident in the 100 block of South Kenmore Avenue noticed damage to her front door and door jamb. The door was still locked. Upon checking the apartment, nothing appeared missing. The damage occurred between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. Saturday. Car burglary A car in the 400 block of East Schiller Street was burglarized between 10 p.m. Saturday and 3:30 a.m. Sunday. An iPhone charger and driver's license were stolen. Harassment A resident told police Sunday that her stepbrother was coming over and that he had threatened her in the past. The suspect told police it was a legal matter and that he didn't want to say much about it. About 3 p.m. Sunday, he showed up protesting in front of the woman's house. An officer told both parties that the stepbrother was not violating any laws. Warrant Vanessa Ramirez, 35, of Melrose Park, was arrested about 5 p.m. Thursday at Route 83 and North on a DeKalb County warrant. She was released on bond. Drug possession Jose Perez, 34, of Elmhurst, was arrested about 7 p.m. Friday in the 100 block of East Lake on a warrant and charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and obstructing identification. According to a police report, officers responded to a domestic disturbance, with a woman saying her son ran away toward York Street. The man, identified as Perez, gave a false name and possessed a white powdery substance. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail. Miguel Flores, 25, of Joliet, was arrested about 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Lake and Grand on charges of obstructing justice, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. According to a police report, he was in possession of cocaine. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail. Driving violations Jasia Ajayi, 21, of Chicago, was cited about 2:30 a.m. Friday at Roosevelt and York on charges of no valid driver's license, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving an uninsured vehicle. She was released on bond. Christopher Diego, 22, of Bensenville, was arrested about 6 p.m. Friday in the 400 block of Lake on charges of driving with a suspended license, possession of marijuana by a driver, improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and disobeying a traffic control device. He was released on bond. Nevidian King, 26, of Chicago, was cited about 2:30 a.m. Thursday at York and Industrial on charges of driving with a suspended license and possession of marijuana by a driver. He was released on bond. Police report information is provided by local police departments. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and people charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
