SMITHTOWN, NY — Smithtown residents are set to head to the polls on Tuesday, May 17. The vote is scheduled from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. There are four polling places: Smithtown Elementary School on Lawrence Avenue, St. James Elementary School on Lake Avenue, Nesconset Elementary School on Gibbs Pond Road, and Accompsett Elementary School on Lincoln Street. Here is a Smithtown polling place finder. The Smithtown School District's proposed spending plan for the 2022-23 school year is $267,786,882. That's a 2.08 percent increase from the current budget. The tax levy is $207,439,293, or a 1.2 percent increase from last year's. Smithtown School Board incumbent Michael Catalanotto is set to run for another three-year term against challenger Charles Fisher. Incumbent Michael Saidens is running against Angela Kouvel for a three-year term, as well. Both winners' terms would be set to expire on June 30, 2025.
