DOUGLASVILLE, GA — Authorities say an altercation between two male students Tuesday morning at Alexander High School in Douglasville led to a stabbing, with one of the students taken to the hospital and the other at large.
The incident spurred a Code Red lockdown starting at about 8:30 a.m., meaning no students were allowed in or out of the building, according to Douglas County schools spokesperson Portia Lake. The lockdown lifted at about 10:15 a.m., with students being allowed to check out and leave soon thereafter.
The incident appeared to have involved two males, both students, said Douglas County Schools police chief Tracy Whaley. The student who was stabbed was conscious and alert when he was taken from the campus, said Whaley, who declined to comment on the student's current condition. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is assisting in the search for the other student.
The incident is believed to have happened near the high school's cafeteria.
School officials have not said what led up to the stabbing, reported WAGA-TV. Another Atlanta station, WSB-TV, reported that it observed "multiple law enforcement vehicles and at least one ambulance" at the school.
The Douglas County Sentinel is reporting on its Facebook page that all students and staff members are safe. Parents are being provided with updates every 15 minutes through the school's messaging system, the Douglasville newspaper reports.
