Description
Hello there! I have been fostering a 3 year old lab/mix for the past couple of weeks and feel he is ready to find his new forever home... His current name is 'Three'! Details: - He is a 'surrender' dog (owner had to give him up or face eviction, she had several dogs) - Has Rabies shot, is neutered and is chipped (I think we can transfer info to new family) - Smaller than a regular lab - probably 45lbs?, looks like he might have a little bit of American Terrier in him? - In his old home - seems he got occasional walks, occasional dog park runs, could go off leash with previous owner, was friendly with other dogs and cats in that house. - Is very well potty trained, crate trained, fetches balls well and can sit and shake paws. - Old owner said he is hard on toys, will grab your lunch off the counter, but will stay off of furniture. She also had a couple of teenage kids so he's been around kids before My experiences in two weeks: - He bonded with me pretty quickly (I'm good with dogs, 50 year old single male) - He seems to be very puppy like at the age of three, likely due to lack of attention/training in old home. - I introduced him to 4 different friends in the first two days I had him, he was easy with two and uneasy with two (a little defensive/fearful) and as such barked harshly at them on leash. I feel this could be pretty easily trained out of him. - Have taken him on numerous walks where he really wants to play with other dogs, but is also a little assertive/fearful around them, but I held him back until I get to know him better. He needs some work on a leash! - Tried a 'gentle leader' on him, he didn't like it but I think he would adapt pretty quickly. He also adapted very quickly to treat training. - To an inexperienced dog person he could come across as being assertive when you first meet him but I really think with about 3-4 weeks of regular work/training he would be just fine. - I think he would also make a stellar hiking dog at some point too... - Would absolutely be a great single person's dog with very little work, and with a bit more effort could be incorporated into a family/pack as well! - Is not really a barker at all when I am around, seems to bark for awhile when I leave him in a crate before settling down. I have left him in a crate for up to 5 hours (no potty problems). Whines a little if he wants attention but in a kinda cute sort of way. - Likes to sleep upside down... I am fostering just to help out the friends and am not in a position job-wise where I can keep him or give him the attention he deserves to have. Plus I don't have a yard for him to roam around in. I am not asking for a re-homing fee - but I am screening people who might be interested. I want him to go to a person/family that will walk him regularly, spend a few weeks training him so he can become an integrated member fo their family, that will feed him good food and take care of him vet-wise. Am happy to answer any other questions that you have! You can text me initially at the number listed below. I think that if he accepts you as a new family he has the potential to be a stellar dog for someone.
