Elections 2020: Battie, Alpert, Arroyo Win City Commission Seats

SARASOTA, FL — Kyle Scott Battie, Liz Alpert and Erik "E" Arroyo have been elected to serve four-year terms on the Sarasota City Commission based on unofficial results from Tuesday's general election, the city said in a news release. In District 1, Battie defeated incumbent Willie Charles Shaw to win the city commission's District 1 seat. Battie earned 3,475 votes, while Shaw received 2,971. Meanwhile, Alpert, the incumbent, retained her District 2 seat with 6,045 votes. Her opponent, Terry Turner, who previously sat on the city commission from 2009 to 2013, received 5,684 votes. Arroyo narrowly defeated Daniel A. Clermont to win the District 3 seat. Arroyo earned 3,651 votes, while his opponent received 3,477. The commissioners-elect will be sworn into office at the City Commission's Nov. 6 statutory meeting at Sarasota City Hall, located at 1565 1st Street in Sarasota. The annual selection of a mayor and vice mayor will also take place at this meeting. Outgoing Vice Mayor Shelli Freeland Eddie and District 1 Commissioner Willie Charles Shaw will also be recognized for their years of service. At the same meeting, Mayor Jen Ahearn-Koch will deliver a State of the City address.
