SARASOTA, FL — City Manager Tom Barwin will retire from the position as of Dec. 31, the Herald-Tribune reported. Sarasota city commissioners unanimously agreed to the terms of his departure at their Monday meeting. Deputy City Manager Marlon Brown will serve in the position on an interim basis. City commissioners are expected to approve a contract and offer him the role permanently, reports said. Barwin, who has worked with the city for eight-and-a-half years, informed commissioners via memo in November that he would present his retirement transition plan to them Dec. 7. He sent the memo after meeting with Vice Mayor Erik Arroyo, who was elected to the commission for the first time Nov. 3, reports said. On the day he was sworn in, Arroyo requested that Barwin's future with the city be discussed at a commission meeting. Like what you're reading?
