Natural gas line inspection
Jobs
Phenix City AL
Description
Hiring one person to join our small team inspecting natural gas lines in the Columbus area. This is a year-round, full-time 40 hour per week position that pays $20.00/hr. This is a W-2 position. You are not an independent contractor. Weekends off and paid holidays. The actual schedule is Mon-Thur - 10 hour days. I started my company in 2019 and serve gas utilities and municipalities throughout the South. I have 2 other employees, one here in Columbus and the other who travels to my smaller projects in NC and SC. Therefore, you will be part of a small team. Our role is to perform mandatory inspections of our client's gas systems. My client in Columbus is Liberty Utilities and we inspect their entire system including Ft. Benning. You will be assigned to this project only. No experience is necessary. I will train you fully and provide everything you need to perform the job. However I need you to be fluent with technology (mobile devices), basic ExCel and e-mail. I need you to be detail oriented and physically fit. You will walk 6-8 miles per day in heat and cold so I need someone who loves to be outside. I need you to be able to read and interpret maps and have a good sense of direction. You must have your own dependable transportation (I reimburse you for your mileage at the current IRS rate - now 58.5 cents/mile). You must be drug free. The natural gas industry is regulated by DOT so there is a no exception drug policy (just like truck drivers). You will have a pre-employment drug test performed at no cost but also be subjected to random drug testing. My employees and I are tested on average every few months but have been selected for testing within a week of the last test. It's totally random. This is critical. If you enjoy a toke every now and then that's great but please don't waste my time or yours applying. I intend to put a lot of work and effort into you for your success. I don't want it ruined over a positive drug test. So, what is this job. As I said, gas systems are required to be inspected at certain intervals. For example, residential areas every 5 years. Business areas every year. We do this by actually walking over the buried line with an instrument that detects methane in the air. Natural gas rises so is detectable above ground. We follow the gas line to every meter on every house and business and we inspect those above ground facilities. When a leak is found we investigate it and notify the utility company for repair. This is a job you will either love or hate. You will go where the gas lines go. This includes expensive neighborhoods to high crime areas. Busy business areas (such as Veterans Pkwy) to quiet two lane country roads. You WILL find gas leaks, sometimes potentially explosive leaks, and gain the satisfaction of saving lives. You must be comfortable entering other peoples property and interacting with the homeowners when necessary. You are provided identification and signage from the utility to verify your presence is legitimate. You are also provided all equipment and personal protective equipment at no cost to you. This is not a gimmick job, as many are on this site. It's a real job with all the good and bad. Re-read the description and only apply if you feel this would be something you would enjoy doing. I will perform a lengthy phone interview before scheduling a personal interview so all of your questions can be answered.
